History In ancient times, representatives of the Taokas and Ketangalan peoples, as well as a number of representatives of the Atayal people, lived on these lands. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Spaniards settled near these places, later ousted by the Dutch, but the Europeans did not delve into the territory of the future county. When in 1662 Zheng Chenggong expelled the Europeans from the island and proclaimed the rule of the Ming Empire on it, these lands became part of Tianxing County (天 兴县), but no real administrative structures were created on them during the existence of the state of the Zheng family. In 1683, Taiwan was invaded by the Qing Empire.
