Viet Nam

Vietnam is a country in the east of Asia. It is slightly smaller than Germany and has slightly more inhabitants there. Vietnam borders China, Laos and Cambodia. The capital in the north is called Hanoi. Another major city is Ho Chi Minh City in the south. This city used to be called Saigon.

The land is a long strip on the South China Sea. In the west, mountain ranges stretch from north to south. The highest peaks there reach 2,700 meters in height. The land is flatter on the coast.

About nine out of ten residents call themselves Vietnamese. About a million residents are Chinese who emigrated to Vietnam. Peoples who speak their own language live in the mountains.

For a long time, Vietnam was almost exclusively a farming country. Even today, many Vietnamese are actively engaged in agriculture. They mainly grow rice and coffee beans. However, there are also many industries producing textiles, shoes, car parts and more. The mining industry produces a lot of coal. Fishing is also important for the country. In addition, there is a small amount of oil in Vietnam.

Vietnamese people love noodle soups, as well as the famous spring rolls.
