The history of the city began with the fact that back in the 19th century, doctors recognized the microclimate of a high-mountain valley useful for patients with pulmonary diseases. Robert Louis Stevenson, who was treated here, wrote the novel Treasure Island in Davos. The city is also the setting for the novel "The Magic Mountain" by the German writer Thomas Mann. In March 1929, the famous philosophical dispute between Ernst Cassirer and Martin Heidegger took place in Davos.
