Matsuyama is the capital of Ehime Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. Along its coastline, which stretches for hundreds of kilometers, lie some of the most spectacular beaches in the country, while remaining unknown to most people because of its remote location from the city.

It is for this reason that the Matsuyama coast is one of the best places in Japan to swim: there are never any crowds here. The downside: you can't get to the beach without a car. But it's definitely worth a visit.
