Zvolle is a city and community in the Netherlands, the capital of the province of Overijssel. In the past it was a Hanseatic city. Lies on the rivers Zvarthe Vater and IJssel. As of February 1, 2012, the population was 121,602 inhabitants. The area of the community is 119.28 km2. As of January 1, 2003, there were 4,336 different enterprises and firms in Zwolle, with a total of 75,049 jobs.

The city arose in a high place in the middle of a swampy area. Such places were called "soule"; this word became the name of the settlement and was later transformed into its present form. The first written mention of the settlement dates back to 1040. In 1230 the settlement received city rights. In the 15th century, during its heyday, the city entered the Hansa. Of the ancient monuments, the most famous are the Pepper Bowl (Netherlands. Peperbus), which received this name because of its shape, and the city gate Sassenpoort, as well as the remains of the city wall, the Church of St. Michael and numerous old houses.
In 1945, Canadian soldier Leo Major, using the darkness, freed Zwolle from the Germans almost alone. One of the city streets is named after him.
