Kofu is a city in the center of Honshu (Kanto region), the administrative, cultural and economic center of Yamanashi Prefecture. Kofu is located in a hollow between two mountain ranges. In cloudless weather, you can observe Fujiyama from the city, which rises in the south of the prefecture. Carnation, oak and kingfisher are symbols of the city.

The name Kofu means “the capital of the Kai province”. Archaeological research has revealed traces of a person on the territory of the municipality, 8 thousand years old. The settlement of Kofu was founded in 1519 and was the stronghold of the powerful daimyo (military feudal lord) Takeda Shingen. In 1945, Kofu was attacked by American aircraft. Kofu is not rich in attractions, but the city has several interesting sites. These include the feudal Kofu Castle, which for some time housed the Yamanashi Science Museum. Kofu Castle is surrounded by cherry blossom-dominated Maizuru Park. Also of interest are the Kai-Zenko Buddhist Temple and the Takeda Shinto Shrine, which includes a museum exhibition of Takeda Shingen's personal belongings (weapons, armor, standards) and a national shrine - a sword from the Kamakura period (12-14 centuries).
