Kuwait

The State of Kuwait ("Daulat Al-Kuwait") is located in the northwest of the Persian Gulf and borders Saudi Arabia to the south, Iraq to the northwest and north. With an area of 17,818 km2, the country is about twice the size of the island of Crete.

Kuwait consists mainly of dry steppes and deserts and is almost equal, except for the chain of hills of the Taurus Mountains (up to 150 m), which runs parallel to the coast. The vast sandstone plateau, which occupies most of the country's area, rises from east to west, the largest height is Ash-Shakaya, 283 m. The western border with Iraq runs through a dry valley (Wadi al-Batin).

The Gulf of Kuwait stretches 40 km inland, at the southern tip is the capital, bearing the same name as the country (Al-Kuwait). To the north of the gulf there is an alluvial strip belonging to al-Arab, to the south of the gulf there are large oil fields to which the state owes its prosperity.
