The western suburb of Paris, the commune of Puteaux, is located almost 9 km from the French capital in the very center of the Hauts-de-Seine department. History The first reliable mention of the Puteaux commune can be found in historical documents during the reign of King Louis VI. They concern the ownership of the Abbey of Saint-Victor in the vineyards around the village. Puteaux remained a monastic possession until 1686, after which it became part of the royal domain. 

 

 

Since the end of the 17th century. the surroundings of this town attract some of the influential courtiers of the French king with their picturesque beauty. In 1698, the Duke of Gramont, the Marshal of France, built his country mansion on the banks of the Seine. In the XVIII century. the inhabitants of Puteaux were still mainly engaged in winemaking. Another important source of income for the commune was the cultivation of roses and the production of rose oil. The time of industrial development of Pute came in the 19th century, after the construction of a railway line to the city. In the 1880s, after A. de Dion founded the De-Dion-Bouton company, it became one of the centers of the French automotive industry.
