Ulsan has the status of a city of central subordination and is one of the largest industrial and transport centers in the Republic of Korea.

History. The territories occupied by Ulsan received rapid development after 1962, when the uyezd center with adjacent volosts with a population of 212 thousand people became a city and received the status of a special industrial zone as part of the country's modernization program.
