Ludwigshafen am Rhein is a city in Germany, a city of state subordination, located in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The second largest in Rhineland-Palatinate, an important industrial and economic center of the land.

Together with its Baden-Württemberg neighbor Mannheim and other nearby towns, Ludwigshafen am Rhein forms the metropolitan region of the Rhein-Neckar. Other large neighboring cities are Heidelberg (about 25 km southeast), Karlsruhe (50 km south) and Mainz (60 km north). The famous chemical concern BASF is located in the city.
It is part of the district (city of land subordination). The population is 164 351 people (as of December 31, 2010). Covers an area of 77.68 km². The official code is 07 3 14 000.
